Stadtwerke Malchow, Groß Kelle

Climate-friendly biomethane from diverse substrates
  • Process capacity: 500 Nm³/h raw biogas,
  • Total capacity: 600 Nm³/h raw biogas (is equal to 1.5 MWel.), Heating capacity: 500 kWth./h
  • Feed-in capacity: 250 Nm³/h biomethane
  • Input: Maize, grain whole plant silage, pig manure
  • Start-up date: 2011

The gas upgrading plant of the Stadtwerke Malchow (public utilities in Malchow) has its location in the middle of the appealing landscape of the Mecklenburg Lake District in the near of Groß Kelle. The plant has a capacity of 500 Nm³/h and upgrades the raw biogas from a neighbouring biogas plant. About 260 Nm³ biomethane per hour are compressed to 25 bar and fed into the gas grid of E.ON edis.

The biogas plant Groß Kelle is located in the immediate neighbourhood at a large pig breeding farm from which the manure is supplied directly via a pump pipeline. Furthermore, the plant processes renewable raw materials, such as maize and grass. After harvesting, the chopped plants are stored airtight under a foil in a moveable silo. Additionally, in a further silo approx. 300 tonnes of grain are stored for feeding the plant.

The project is supported by the state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania through a loan with favourable terms of the KfW Banking Group.
